Join the Boone County Conservation District for a stroll through five Cultural Heritage Gardens, a Rain Garden, Butterfly Garden and the Boone County Master Gardener Demonstration Garden.
Gardener interpreters in period clothing will be available for all your garden questions as you tour the Yankee, Scottish, German, Norwegian and Potawatomi gardens. Learn about the many varieties of heirloom vegetables grown by settlers in the early 1800’s. Local historian George Thomas will be in the Dawson River Road Schoolhouse to tell stories about Boone County in the 1800’s. Enjoy folk music on the grounds, visit the Norwegian and Scottish cabins for quilting demonstrations and enjoy a beautiful summer evening in the gardens!
Members of the University of Illinois Boone County Master Gardener program will be on hand as you tour the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden.
The Boone County Garden Club of America Butterfly Garden and the Boone County Conservation District Rain Garden and Prairie Plant Identification area will also be included in the tour.
Enjoy free refreshments and lemonade! Live music will be provided by Bluegrass Country and other area musicians.
