Woodstock LEED Home Tour - Part 2 Completion
14910 Route 176, Woodstock IL 60098
Join the U.S. Green Building Council - Illinois Chapter's Rockford/Northern Illinois Branch for a Sustainable Residential Home Tour.
This is "part-two" of the Woodstock residence tour and previous Branch program, “Building a LEED Home on a Budget”. The home, situated on a 5 acres site, was purchased without a roof or interiors and converted into a sustainable home.
Learn how this proposed LEED Silver “gut & rehab” project was finished, and how sustainable decisions were made from HVAC systems to carpet. We will discuss the trade-offs in accomplishing credits. Highlights include new mechanical systems, Pex piping system, a HRV, locally built millwork cabinets, reused products, and on-demand hot water system. On the property a large garden provides more than enough vegetables for the homeowners, friends, and donations to the near by food pantry.
The project includes a ground mounted 5 KW solar panel installation which was designed with micro-inverters to allow the home to be Net-zero electric.
The budget will be updated, HERS Rating revealed, and scorecard shared with the audience. In addition, the LEED rater will conduct a blower door test demonstration so the attendees will have first-hand experience on how a HERS rating is obtained.
Pre-Register at www.usgbc-illinois.org. $10 for USGBC Members; $20 for Same Day Registration and Non-Members.
Food and drinks will be provided with a cookout provided by the homeowners.
