Public Exhibition of The Historical Buddha’s Relics

Maitreya Loving Kindness Tour, a free public exhibition of the historical Buddha's relics will be on display in Rockford September 12, 13 and 14.
Most of the Relics in this collection resemble beautiful multi-colored pearl-like crystals and are over 2,600 years old. Many of the relics are from the 14th Dalai Lama’s own collection. Relics embody the master’s spiritual qualities of wisdom and loving kindness.
The exhibitions provide a chance for people to connect directly with some of the greatest spiritual Masters of all time and to reflect on their own potential for a kinder and more loving heart.
This public exhibition is multi-faith, multi-cultural and free to attend.

The 66th Greenwich Village Art Fair takes place Sept. 13–14, rain or shine, on the grounds of Rockford Art Museum at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 North Main Street in downtown Rockford, Illinois; Presenting Sponsor is Alpine Bank. Please join the Northern Illinois Pagan Alliance in welcoming Selena Fox of Wisconsin's Circle Sanctuary as our Guest of Honor at the Annual Proud to Be Pagan Day on September 13, 2014. Selena will discuss "Paganism Around the World".
The event will be held on the grounds of Rockford's Unitarian Universalist Church at 4848 Turner Street. Events are planned from 10am to dusk, and include family friendly activities, vendors, music, drumming, and workshops. a lunch tent with beverages and snacks is planned. 3rd Annual Emergency Preparedness Day at Rockford Public Library

The event will feature a talk and video presentation by storm chaser Danny Neal on his adventures, WTVO meteorologist Brandon Arnold will broadcast live in front of the Nordlof Center and discuss the role of TV news during a disaster, and a showing of the movie Twister in the J. R. Sullivan Theatre.
Participating organizations include ComED, Heart Solutions, Medline, NICOR, Rock River Valley Blood Bank, Williams Manny, Metro Ambulance and the Rockford Fire Department. Participants will receive valuable information on how to protect their family and home in case of a disaster as well as learn how to prepare an emergency kit. In addition, kids will learn how to build a tornado fog at home.

Freeport Downtown Development Foundation (FDDF) announces a craft beer tasting in downtown Freeport.
The Pretzel City Brewfest will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 1 – 5:30 p.m. in the grass lot at the intersection of Chicago and Douglas.
Attendees can either purchase a general admission ticket for $20, which includes admission, 20 tasting tickets and a souvenir glass or VIP tickets for $50 that include one hour early entry, 30 tasting tickets, access to special releases, two souvenir glasses, bag, t-shirt, and koozie. General admission ticket price goes to $25 at the gate.
Beer vendors will be on hand to serve tastings of both local and national craft beers. There will be special flavor releases starting at 1:30p.m. Food will also be available from Main Street Bistro, Freeport Jaycees, Hungry Hot Dog Cart, the Elk’s Lodge, and Royal Pub. Entertainment will be provided by national touring band, and Freeport natives, Nathan Dean and the Damn Band.

First National Bank and Trust (FNBT) will be hosting a series of Free Electronic Recycling Drives in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois. Goodwill will have a mobile unit on-site at three FNBT branches to help community members securely dispose of electronic devices. This free service, open to all community members, will be available from 9:00 am until noon on the following dates:
