A Flea in Her Ear

8:00 pm, 9/27, 9/28, 10/4 - 2:00 pm

Rock Valley College Studio Theatre
A Flea in Her Ear is the greatest of French farces, if not the greatest farce ever written. Raymonde Chandebise suspects that her husband, Victor, a placid and successful insurance executive, is secretly having an affair. To find out, she and her friend, Lucienne, write him an anonymous love letter suggesting a rendezvous at the shady Hotel Coq d’Or. Thinking the letter was intended for his coworker, the gigolo Tournel, Victor sends Tournel off to make the rendezvous in his place. Lucienne's jealous Spanish husband, meanwhile, finds the letter, recognizes his wife's handwriting and takes his pistols to the hotel, hoping to catch her in the act. Meanwhile, Victor's nephew Camille tries to warn everyone about the mix-up, but his ridiculous speech impediment prevents anyone from understanding him. All decamp to the hotel where, it turns out, the drunken bellboy Poche is the exact double of the proper Victor Chandebise. Meeting Poche and thinking she's been caught by her husband, Raymonde keeps trying to escape from the hotel with Tournel, but a revolving bed keeps flinging them from room to room, as more and more of the involved parties pile into the hotel in a climax culminating in the entrance of the jealous Spaniard and his pistols. This whimsical farce by Georges Feydeau starts off the "Season of Love" with a bang!

Fridays & Saturdays, 8:00 pm; Sundays, 2:00 pm

The Pecatonica Playhouse 314 N. Main St. Pecatonica Illinois
"Abundance" From the Pulitzer Prize winning author of Crimes of the Heart comes this poignant but unromanticized story of the hard lives of pioneers on the high plains of Wyoming in the 1860's. Macon and Bess are two mail-order brides, lured to the West by the promise of new beginnings through marriage to men they have never met. While waiting for their respective husbands-to-be, one bubbling with optimism, the other mousy and plain, the two women become instant best friends. As Abundance follows the two women through their friendship and adventures for the next 25 years, this Western epic unearths the dark underside of American mythology. Showtimes Fri and Sat @ 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. For tickets call 815-239-1210 or bu online at www.pecplayhouse.org

And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little

October 2-4, 2014; 7:30 p.m.; October 5, 2014; 2:00 p.m.

Rockford University, Maddox Theatre, Clark Arts Center, 5050 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108
The three Reardon sisters have grown up in a house of women, dominated by their mother, who is only recently dead. But time has erased the tender closeness of girlhood; one sister has married and cut herself off; another has begun to drink more than she should; and the third, after a scandalous incident at the school where she teaches, is on the brink of madness. When the married sister comes to dinner to press the need for committing her sibling to an institution, the simmering resentments of many years burst alive and are exacerbated by the intrusion of a well-meaning but boorish neighbor couple, whose unexpected arrival impels the action towards its shattering conclusion—in which all the pathos, humor and searing honesty of the play combine with overwhelming effect.

Single ticket admission is $12 for adults, $9 for seniors age 55 and up and for students. Group rates are available. For tickets or information, please call the Box Office at 815-226-4100 or visit rockford.edu. Dates and locations are subject to change.

Janesville Irish Fest

October 2-5

Janesville, WI. For complete details, see www.janesvilleirishfest.com.
About Us
History of Irish Fest

Janesville Irish Fest is a four-day celebration of the area’s Irish heritage and culture. It offers a uniquely, nontraditional festival experience through hosting events at multiple citywide locations. Local businesses, organizations and nonprofits collaborate together to present Irish-themed music, dance, food and family activities.

The year 2013 was the inaugural year of the event. The event idea evolved after booking the popular Irish band, Gaelic Storm, on October 5th and 6th in 2013 at the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC). The Irish festival was planned surrounding the popular band’s performance. Several community members from partnering organizations came together to expand on JPAC’s Irish band to expand the event into a citywide festival celebrating Irish culture in Janesville. It was an interesting fact to learn that Janesville has the highest percentage of population of Irish residents as compared to other larger cities in the state of Wisconsin.

The Janesville Irish Fest takes place at several locations throughout Janesville, allowing attendees to experience all that Janesville has to offer. In addition, the festival is family-friendly, setting it apart from other Irish festivals in the state.

The festival is aimed at promoting tourism in Janesville and Rock County, while providing local residents the opportunity to seek out fun, cultural entertainment.

For complete details, including a schedule of events, see www.janesvilleirishfest.com.
