Ultra-Deep Field Art Exhibit

Opening Reception, Friday, October 24, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm; Gallery open October 20-November 14

Rockford University Art Gallery, Clark Arts Center, 5050 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108
Artists: Daniel Baird, Sarah and Joseph Belknap, Katie Bell, Bill Conger, Laura Davis, Adam Farcus, Bob Jones, Holly Murkerson, Erin Washington
Curated by Jason Judd, Ultra-Deep Field is a group exhibition that considers the inadequacy of representing desire, time, and scale by way of hand. Though the artwork spans sculpture, photography, drawing, and video, the pieces posture themselves as self-evident, allowing the literal to be experienced as poetic. In the exhibition, Joseph Belknap lights Sarah Belknap’s cigarette using the sun, Bill Conger stencils an exact replica of a poem written by his 8 year old son, while Erin Washington’s 9 x 12 black acrylic panel documents the process of her hand healing by using her injured hand to draw itself. To this end, Ultra-Deep Field suggests possibilities of how to reorient one’s body with the everyday world that acts upon it.
The Rockford University Art Gallery is located in the Clark Arts Center on Rockford University’s campus at 5050 East State Street, Rockford. Gallery Hours are Monday – Thursday, 3 – 6 p.m. and by appointment.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Clark Arts Center is wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact the Rockford University Box Office at 815-226-4100 or Molly Carter, Gallery Director at 815-226-4105, M.Carter@Rockford.edu

Babes in Arms

Thursday-Saturday, November 20-22, 2014; 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, November 23, 2014; 2:00 p.m.

Rockford University, Maddox Theatre, Clark Arts Center, 5050 E. State St., Rockford, IL 61108
The quintessential "Hey kids, let’s put on a show!” musical boasts one of the greatest scores ever written. Songs include My Funny Valentine, Where or When, I Wish I Were in Love Again, The Lady is a Tramp and Johnny One-Note. Set in a summer stock theatre, the plot concerns a group of young apprentices and their conviction to mount the original revue they have created while dodging the underhanded attempts of the surly theatre owner to squash their attempts at every turn. Further complications are provided by the overbearing stage mother of an ex-child star and the inflated ego of a hack Southern playwright. But of course the show must go on, and so it does in a resolution of comeuppance, reconciliation and romance.

Single ticket admission is $12 for adults, $9 for seniors age 55 and up and for students. Group rates are available. For tickets or information, please call the Box Office at 815-226-4100 or visit rockford.edu. Dates and locations are subject to change.
