CAST Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, that was created in 2010, to create a stronger tomorrow by providing financial assistance to other nonprofit organizations that strengthen our community. Each year, CAST Foundation organizes a 5k run/walk, called Tractor Trot, in Malta, Illinois.
Our 2014 Tractor Trot race will occur on June 7, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. The race proceeds will be donated to Girls on the Run of Dekalb County. Girls on the Run is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.”
Girls on the Run (GOTR) was established in 1996 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The program provides pre-adolescent girls with the necessary tools to embrace their individual strengths and successfully navigate life experiences. There are two age groups that are served by GOTR, 3rd – 5th grade (Girls on the Run) and 6th – 8th grade (Girls on Track).
The Girls on the Run lessons encourage positive emotional, social, mental and physical development. Participants explore and discuss their own beliefs around experiences and challenges girls face at this age. They also develop important strategies and skills to help them navigate life experiences.
Girls on track The curriculum allows for more mature processing around certain topics including eating disorders, internet safety, relationships, cyber-bullying and tobacco and alcohol use. The girls discuss these subjects on an in-depth level and use their personal experiences to shape thought-provoking discussion. GOTR uses physical activity to inspire and motivate girls throughout the program, to encourage lifelong health and fitness, and most importantly, to build confidence through accomplishment.
