1800's Holiday Walk

Boone County Conservation District, Belvidere
The Boone County Conservation District will be hosting an 1800’s Holiday Walk on Saturday, December 5th, 6-8 pm.

Join us for an evening of magic as you are transported back to the 1800’s. At the event entrance you can buy a commemorative candle to help guide you along luminary lit paths. As you stroll the grounds you can listen to carolers and learn about winter on the prairie at two historic log cabins, a wigwam and a covered wagon. Children of all ages can visit a Civil War Santa in his field tent and enjoy live music in the one room schoolhouse. A blacksmith will be making gifts at his forge. Don’t forget to stop and enjoy hot chocolate and popcorn cooked over an open fire. After the outside activities, warm up in the nature center where you can shop for holiday gifts. Children can make holiday ornaments and everyone can enjoy hot cider and holiday treats.

Holiday Victorian Tea - Holiday Goodies in the 1800's

Discover the history and traditions associated with holiday goodies both well-known and lesser-known, with a special presentation, decorations, and a souvenir craft project to take home. The menu will include three courses of delicious savories, sandwiches, scones, sweets, and endless pots of holiday teas. REGISTRATION and PAYMENT DEADLINE is Monday, November 27. Rockford Community Nativity Display and Concert

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (“Mormons”) invite the community to celebrate Christmas by attending the Rockford Community Nativity Display and Concert on Friday, December 1st, from 5:00 to 9:00 PM and Saturday, December 2nd, from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event is free and very family friendly. The Community will enjoy a beautiful display of at least 500 Nativity scenes, decorated Christmas trees, live vignettes about the coming and birth of Christ, a story teller, children picture scavenger hunt and musical performances by 17 different local choral and instrumental groups. The event will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 324 University Drive, Rockford, Illinois 61108

Groups performing this year include Kantorei, Svea Soner, ECHO Ringers, 2nd City Chorus, Rockford Choral Union, Truman’s Ridge Bluegrass Band, Rockford Operetta Party, Trinadora, Rockford Flute Club, Belvidere and Belvidere North Choraliers, 2nd Opinion Quartet, Rodriguez Family Quartet, and more to come. Ample free parking is available. Free light refreshments will be provided. Activities for younger children include nativity dress up, a story teller, and a picture scavenger hunt. People can come and go as they please during the set hours. No free will offering is requested. The public is just urged to enjoy the displays and the performances as part of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which worldwide has over 15 million members and approximately 3,000 members in the northern Illinois / southern Wisconsin area, has been hosting the event since 2012.

STEM Divas-Say Cheese!

Come with your selfie face and be ready to snap pictures in our STEM photography class! Students will see how cameras evolved to the tiny power machines we keep in our pockets and investigate what makes a good photo. Students build their own mini-studio and edit their photos to share with their friends and family.
Families are encouraged to bring smartphones or tablets, but we will have some available for students to use.
Note: This class will satisfy the requirements for Girl Scouts Juniors Digital Photographer badge and it is open to anyone who is interested.
