103 years ago, the soldiers in the Western front of the Great War called unofficial ceasefires during the week of Christmas. Enemies came together to decorate, exchange gifts, sing carols, and even play football! Re-enactors will decorate the replica 150 yard-long trench. Visitors will receive a special holiday trench tour and hear excerpts of letters from World War I soldiers experiencing Christmas in the trenches, You will also see a narrated re-enactment of a battle and the cease fire, sing carols,with the soldiers, receive a special gift, sip hot chocolate, see real WWI artifacts, and even play football. PREREGISTRATION is required by Thursday, December 7 along with the admission price. Call 815 397-9112 . Please dress for the weather since the event is outdoors. See our website for more information. "Scarecrows on Parade"

Crow about Cherry Valley with the 5th annual "Scarecrows on Parade" event sponsored by the Friends of the Cherry Valley Public Library. Over 50 scarecrows have been adopted by local businesses, families, and organizations and are on display on lamp posts throughout the main streets of the village. Scarecrow viewers are encouraged to vote for their favorite scarecrows at $1.00 per vote. Vote as many times as you would like at the library, online at www.cherryvalleylib.org, or at select area businesses. Don't miss this festive and fun fall tradition!
