If you're looking for a good summer book to read, how about a murder mystery with a local tie; a local author and some things in the book you might recognize.
It's called 'Irreparable Damages,' it's about a group of friends who grew up in a small town in the 70's, went their seperate ways, and are reunited 30 years later for the funeral of a friend who was murdered. During the investigation a whole lot of secrets are revealed.
Author Karlene Heinkel was born in Freeport and grew up in Lena. She says the book shows small town living is not that innocent.
"It's the same stuff that happens everywhere else and people think oh it doesn't happen there because it's so innocent.. well, yeah right." Heinkel said.
The backdrop for the book is actually Lena, just on a much larger scale because even the publishers said that kind of stuff doesn't happen in a small town. Heinkel will be in Lena tomorrow for a book signing at the library from 11 a.m. Till 1 p.m. She'll be in Freeport Sunday at Book World.
