Folks around the world and here in the stateline are celebrating Earth day today. We caught up with these fourth-graders from Lincoln Douglas lementary school in Freeport. They were singing and jammin' to "The Recycle Wrap" during music class. After class, they were sent home with an assignment to build instruments with recyclable materials. Their teacher says it's a chance to get these kids thinking about the environment early on in their lives.
"It will be their planet some day and they're responsible for it and just be responsible for themselves and not only cleanup efforts after other people," said Debra Weckerly, a Freeport music teacher
Weckerly lead songs with all her of classes today, and says there's been ongoing discussion with students about helping out the environment.
