As our economy sheds some of its headwinds, the number of planes landing at RFD is growing.
"We fly 9 destinations and have added 2 in the last 4months so it shows we keep looking forward slowly but surely."
Rock River Valley residents now have one more place to fly. Frontier Airlines, will begin non stop service three times a week from Rockford to Denver starting in December.
"It's important the cities we connect with be a big city just like Denver. It's a gateway to the west and the south."
The low cost airline plans to pick up the route left behind by United after the carrier pulled the plug on flights after a 2 year stint between 2006 and 2008 . But leaders and passengers think the flights have staying power this time around.
"It was a good route and everyone loved it, so we said o.k. lets try and bring it back."
" I've been there several times and it'll be nice to fly out of Rockford and not have to travel anywhere."
Leaders think service to the Mile High City will increase foot traffic by about 33,000 passengers.
