|Whitney Martin is no stranger to Rockford. The former East E-RAB grew up in the Stateline and is thrilled to be working in her hometown as the Weekend Anchor at WIFR.
Whitney joined the 23 News Team in March 2007 and has since covered news on both sides of the camera as a Photographer and Reporter.
“We are often dubbed “One Man Bands”. A lot of people don’t realize we shoot, write, and edit our own stories. I genuinely love what I do.”
Whitney was promoted to the Weekend Anchor chair in 2010. Since then, she’s been named one of the “Best TV Anchors” in the state by the Illinois Broadcasters Association and was recognized by the Rockford Register Star’s Readers Choice Awards as one of the top “ TV Personalities” in the market.
“It means so much to me to be able to report to a community I was born and raised in. The stories I cover may affect someone I know personally.”
Whitney started her broadcast career as intern at WIFR and often jokes that she grew up in the newsroom. She graduated from the “ Illinois Center for Broadcasting” in Lombard with honors and was awarded “Outstanding Broadcast Student” upon her departure. There, she hosted an internet radio program and a television segment called the “Community Spotlight”.
In her spare time,Whitney coaches competitive Allstar cheerleading at KidsSpot in Roscoe. She’s been involved with the sport, (yes it is a sport) for more than 12 years. She also attempts to play softball and enjoys volunteering at a local nursing home and Rosie’s Birthday Club which Provides parties for low income children.
