ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Rockford Park District's Therapeutic Recreation Summer 2013 Guide is available free of charge at Park District Customer Service, facilities, and online at http://www.rockfordparkdistrict.org/guides. The 36-page Guide contains program and activity descriptions and schedules for a variety of social, recreational, adapted and paralympic sport, arts, and fitness activities and programs for children, teens, and adults with disabilities.
Also included in the Guide are collaborative peer programs with various community agencies and Park District museum partners, YMCA's summer Camp Winnebago and Adventure Club for various age groups from 6 to 13, plus the popular Buddy Baseball program for ages 8-21, the new All Abilities Wheelchair Softball Rec League for ages 6-adult, and summer camps for teens and tweens. Inclusion services are provided by well-trained and caring therapeutic recreation staff who assess and provide the appropriate level of disability-related support needed by each participant to have a successful experience in any Park District program.
In appreciation of the service to our country by members of the military and their families, the Park District continues its Operation Recreation program, which offers military members and families special discounts, events, and programs. Also continuing is the Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds free fitness program, which is for military veterans in Rockford and surrounding communities ages 18+ with disabilities, along with a friend or family member.
Rockford Park District is a member of the Northlands Association for Special Recreation (NASR), and upcoming NASR social/recreational events and activities in April, June, July, and September for ages 8 and older are also included in the Guide.
Registration is underway for most activities and programs, online at www.rockfordparkdistrict.org
