A year after being hospitalized for a gunshot wound, NIU linebacker Devon Butler was a victim of a stabbing this past weekend. The DeKalb police department confirmed that Butler was stabbed by Freddy E. Sparks-Ward during a fight at a party that Butler was hosting. If convicted of the armed violence charge, Sparks-Ward could serve up to 30 years in prison. Butler was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and released. Back in April of 2011, Butler was shot in an off-campus apartment. Police said the shooting was in retaliation for a drug deal that happened earlier in the day. The police stressed that Butler was not involved in the transaction.
