Illinois Looks For Boost In Passing Game

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase is back for his fourth season at Illinois.

The starter has plenty of wide receivers he can throw to, but none that are coming off spectacular 2012 seasons.

Ryan Lankford had 469 yards receiving last season, tops on the team. Veterans such as Lankford, Spencer Harris, Miles Osei and Steve Hull return, but Illinois finished last in the Big Ten during the 2012 season in passing offense.

Illinois coach Tim Beckman brought in former Western Michigan coach Bill Cubit to turn around the offense. Cubit brings a solid reputation when it comes to the passing game.

"I don't think anybody can stop us," Cubit said. "That's how I've always felt, even the last place I was at. We threw the ball against anybody and everybody."
