After 8 years in the minor leagues Jake Smolinski has finally broken through to the MLB with the Texas Rangers. The outfielder was a Double A All-Star this year hitting 267 with a career high 10 homers in Frisco. Less than 2 weeks ago Smolinski was called up to Triple A and after hitting safely in seven of his eight games there the Rangers made the call. The former Boylan star has been in the minors since getting drafted by Washington in the second round of the 2007 draft.. It's been a decade since Freeport's Jason Pearson played in an MLB game. Texas hosts the Astros tonight. The Rangers come to Chicago next month to play the White Sox August 4th.
