Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts says he thinks a process allowing the team to erect an advertising sign for Toyota can be worked out.
The team has been working on a sponsorship deal with the troubled automaker that would place a sign over the left field bleachers. It would have to be approved by a Chicago zoning commission and a landmarks committee.
Ricketts said ownership is fully respectful of the traditions of Wrigley Field, adding the sign would not interfere with the experience of fans or block the view of neighboring rooftops.
Addressing the City Club of Chicago, Ricketts said the future of manager Lou Piniella will be between Piniella and general manager Jim Hendry. Piniella is in the final year of his contract.
