The Brewers' NL Central lead is almost gone.
Ryan Ludwick's bases-loaded walk broke an eighth-inning tie and Albert Pujols followed with a three-run double as the Cardinals beat the Brewers 9-5 this afternoon.
That means Milwaukee leads the Chicago Cubs by half a game. Last month the Brewers led by 8.5 games.
Saint Louis closed to 5-4 in a four-run fifth inning, then scored five in the eighth against Derrick Turnbow and Carlos Villanueva.
Turnbow took the loss, falling to 2-4.
Scott Rolen tied the score with his 1,000 career R-B-I.
The Cardinals' Ryan Franklin pitched one-plus scoreless innings for the win, improving to 4-0.
