Candice Dupree made consecutive lay-ups to put Chicago up 52-to-48 with 3:53 left. The Monarchs tied the score a minute-and-a-half later on a pair of free throws from Chelsea Newton and a jumper by Rebekkah Brunson.
Lawson led the Monarchs with 19 points, and Powell added 16.
Dupree had 21 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for the Sky.
