NFL Suspends Tank Johnson for 8 Games

The Chicago Bears' defensive tackle was suspended for the first eight games of the 2007 season. He's the third player sidelined this offseason under Goodell's toughened personal-conduct policy.

After getting the news, Johnson said he is looking at the suspension as an opportunity for him to move forward. He says it's not his call to say whether Goodell's action is fair or unfair.

Goodell says the suspension could be reduced to six games if Johnson has no further run-ins with the law and undergoes counseling.

Johnson spent two months in the Cook County jail for violating probation on a gun charge. He will be allowed to attend training camp and play in the preseason.
