Cubs To Honor Banks With Statue

The Chicago Cubs plan to erect a statue of Hall of Fame infielder Ernie Banks at Wrigley Field by opening day next season.

Banks says the plan announced today is "a truly tremendous honor." And he thanked the Cubs and all of his fans.

Banks was a two-time M-V-P and 14-time All-Star during his 19 seasons with the Cubs.

He ranks second in team history with two-thousand-583 hits, 512 home runs and one-thousand-636 R-B-Is. He's their all-time leader with two-thousand-528 games played and one-thousand-nine extra-base hits.

Banks entered the Hall of Fame in 1977.
