Lohse struck out a career-high 12 while limiting the Cubs to four hits and a walk over eight innings. He put runners on first and third with nobody out in the fourth before getting out of the jam.
Lohse improved to 1-and-0 with help from David Weathers' fifth save.
Lilly fell to 1-and-1 despite holding the Reds to two hits while striking out ten in six innings. One of those hits was Jeff Conine's R-B-I single in the fourth.
Ryan Theriot had three of the Cubs' four hits.
