The Cubs blew a 2-to-1 lead in the seventh inning as the bullpen fell apart. Bob Howry, who took the loss, gave up a single to pinch-hitter Jeff Conine in the seventh to tie the game. He then walked Ryan Freel and was replaced by Wil Ohman, who threw a wild pitch. Catcher Michael Barrett than let a low, sinking pitch deflect off his glove, allowing the go-ahead run to score. The Reds scored two more runs in the eighth.
Victor Santos got the win in releif of Kyle Lohse, who gave up two runs in six and a third innings of work.
