MetroCentre Fights for Ice Hogs

The MetroCentre continues to fight for the Rockford Ice Hogs.

The Ice Hogs owners recently gave the arena a request list asking for better dates, seating, concessions, and even a video scoreboard. If an agreement can't be reached, the Hogs could move to a new arena in Loves Park.

But The MetroCentre says they believe they're making headway. “I feel we've come a long way. Were close to meeting them at every aspect they're asking for,” says Centre Events General Manager Corey Pearson.

One of the biggest issues being worked out is dates. Both the Ice Hogs and Rockford Lighting compete for weekends at the MetroCentre. Ice Hogs part owner Dr. Kris Tumilowicz says the team is the biggest tenant the arena has, so it’s important for them to have Friday and Saturday games so families can attend.

The Ice Hogs owners will be sitting down with the MetroCentre over the next couple of weeks to work out details. Even if an agreement can't be reached, the Rockford Ice Hogs will still call the MetroCentre home for at least the next two seasons.
