Registration is now open for the 2010 Rockford Marathon on Sunday, May 16. Start time and location are 7:00 a.m. at State and Wyman in downtown Rockford.
Runners have the option of signing up for either full (26.2 mile) or half (13.1 mile) marathons. Relay teams comprised of up to four members are also welcome.
The 2009 marathon drew nearly 1,000 runners. The course route is along the scenic Rock River. More 3,000 spectators lined the streets in 2009 to cheer runners from across the Midwest. They also enjoyed a community & sports expo (to again be held in 2010) in nearby Davis Park.
Early bird registration for individuals before March 1 is: $65 for the full marathon; $45 for the half-marathon; and $130 for relay teams. And starting in early 2010, weekly training programs—including Saturday morning runs—will be held in collaboration with Peak Sports Club in nearby Loves Park (visit the marathon's website for details/updates).
The Rockford Marathon is USATF (USA Track & Field)-certified. It is presented in conjunction with the Rockford Road Runners running group and the Rockford Area Convention & Tourism Bureau.
A portion of proceeds will again benefit the non-profit Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
