A columnist for C-B-S Sportsline-dot-com who sat near Guenther during the Illini's 54-to-52 N-C-A-A Tournament loss to Virginia Tech wrote that the A-D yelled substitution advice at Weber and called Illini forward Warren Carter an idiot.
Guenther also reportedly pounded the table where he sat as Illinois blew a 13-point second-half lead.
Guenther didn't return calls from The Associated Press, but he acknowledged in an interview with The (Champaign) News-Gazette that he made the comments. He's reportedly apologized to both Weber and Carter.
University spokesman Kent Brown says Guenther's actions were much like those of a fan.
