Patton says he believes he can win recruiting battles with schools such as Illinois and DePaul.
Patton was formerly Colorado's coach, and today was named Huskies' coach. He replaces Rob Judson who was fired earlier this month after his team finished the season with a 7-and-23 record. Judson had a career record of 74-and-101 with the Huskies.
Patton averages nearly 17 wins per season, and he took Colorado to six post-season berths -- twice going to the N-C-A-A Tournament.
The 48-year-old finished his tenure as the second-winningest coach in Colorado history.
Patton will be the 26th coach of Northern Illinois' men's basketball program.
