Sox Fall 10-8

Padres manager Bud Black says Maddux felt a slight strain since his last start on March 8th against the Chicago Cubs and was pulled for precautionary reasons.

Tim Stauffer started for the Padres in Maddux's place, and did not allow a run in three innings. San Diego went on to beat the White Sox 10-to-8.

Chicago pitcher Jose Contreras gave up only two runs in four-and-two-thirds innings on four hits. He finished with five strikeouts.

Jim Thome hit a pair of home runs for the White Sox.
