Emergency officials from Florida to the Carolinas are watching hurricane Irene because it could become the first hurricane to hit the U.S. in three years.

UNDATED (WIFR) -- Emergency officials from Florida to the Carolinas are watching hurricane Irene because it could become the first hurricane to hit the U.S. in three years.
Forecasters say it could grow to a category four storm before coming ashore this weekend.
