ComEd says power has been restored to most Chicago area customers whose electricity was knocked out by waves of severe storms.
Spokesman Jeff Burdick says crews are working to restore service to 3,000 suburban customers who remain without power Sunday afternoon. He says the hardest hit communities include Bolingbrook, Maywood, Glen Ellyn, and Lombard.
Burdick says the storms caused outages for about 245,000 customers on Friday and Saturday.
Ameren Illinois reports that power has been restored to all but 249 of the roughly 4,300 customers who experienced outages in central and southern parts of the state.
Flooding advisories remain in effect for several Illinois counties. Meteorologists say there's a chance for more storms Sunday night and Monday.
| FAMILY DISASTER PLAN Families should be prepared for all hazards that could affect their area. NOAA’s National Weather Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the American Red Cross urge every family to develop a family disaster plan. Where will your family be when disaster strikes? They could be anywhere at work, at school, or in the car. How will you find each other? Will you know if your children are safe? Disaster may force you to evacuate your neighborhood or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services water, gas, electricity, or telephones were cut off? Follow these basic steps to develop a family disaster plan...
