The Cook County medical examiner's office says cold exposure has contributed to the deaths of two people in their 70s.
The office found Saturday that 73-year-old Betty Yates and 75-year-old Roger Schmidt both had hardened arteries and died of cold exposure. Between 1 and 3 inches of snow blanketed Cook County on Saturday with temperatures below freezing.
Both deaths were ruled accidental. They are the sixth and seventh Chicago residents to suffer cold-related deaths this winter.
