Winnebago County Tornado Sirens
A new siren network in Winnebago county hopes to warn residents of approaching tornadoes.

The county wide siren project is moving ahead as workers begin installing what will eventually be a network of 76 sirens throughout the county. Sixteen of those sirens will be located within Rockford city limits, but the city will not be monitoring or activating any of them.
"They've calculated very clearly and they've laid the whole county out on a map and understanding the footage, the coverage so we make sure we've got every inch of Winnebago County covered." says Winnebago County board chairman Scott Christiansen.
The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of April 2009.

So if they are not goint to monitor or activated any of the tornado sirens, what is the use of them? city is just spending money on things that are very important to the community and not taking advantage????
