McCain visits Florida as state braces for Fay

John McCain, campaigning in Florida, has visited an emergency operations center near Orlando. The Republican presidential candidate got a briefing on Tropical Storm Fay, which could hit the state Monday as a hurricane, and told officials, "You'll be in our thoughts and prayers." McCain says no state is better prepared for an emergency than Florida is. He says he hopes Fay doesn't turn into a hurricane and, if it does, that the damage will be minimal. He says "an overabundance of caution" prompted his campaign to cancel a Miami fundraiser Sunday night. McCain and Barack Obama are in a tight race in the battleground state, with polls showing the contest is within the margin of error despite Obama spending millions of dollars on TV ads.

Where will your family be when disaster strikes? They could be anywhere at work, at school, or in the car. How will you find each other? Will you know if your children are safe? Disaster may force you to evacuate your neighborhood or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services water, gas, electricity, or telephones were cut off? Follow these basic steps to develop a family disaster plan...
