Wisconsin Flood Victims Still Hurting
Spring Green still suffering from severe flooding

Farmers and property owners in Spring Green are still struggling months after severe storms and flooding ravaged southern Wisconsin. Half of Jerry Sprecher's 500 acres are still under water. He figures he lost the $110,000 he put into the land before the flood, along with about $180,000 in corn he can't raise. Still, Sprecher's story isn't the worst in Sauk County, where many have lost homes or have ponds where there were once farm fields. Denny Milanovic is still pumping water from the basement of his Prairie House Motel. It doesn't matter much -- the water table is above the basement and water just flows back in. Sauk County emergency management officials say damage to agriculture, homes and businesses there is about $70 million.
| FAMILY DISASTER PLAN Families should be prepared for all hazards that could affect their area. NOAA’s National Weather Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the American Red Cross urge every family to develop a family disaster plan. Where will your family be when disaster strikes? They could be anywhere at work, at school, or in the car. How will you find each other? Will you know if your children are safe? Disaster may force you to evacuate your neighborhood or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services water, gas, electricity, or telephones were cut off? Follow these basic steps to develop a family disaster plan...
