Wis. residents have 1 month to apply for storm aid

Wisconsin residents who suffered losses from this summer's storms and flooding have one month left to apply for federal aid. The deadline to apply is Sept. 15. Federal aid can include grants for emergency housing and low-interest loans. The Federal Emergency Management Agency said earlier this month the state had received more than $67 million of disaster relief following the storms. Some was from FEMA for housing and other individual needs, and the rest was in the form of low-interest loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration. More than 37,000 residents registered for aid in the 30 state counties declared eligible for assistance. The damage followed heavy rainfall in June in the southern two-thirds of the state.
| FAMILY DISASTER PLAN Families should be prepared for all hazards that could affect their area. NOAA’s National Weather Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the American Red Cross urge every family to develop a family disaster plan. Where will your family be when disaster strikes? They could be anywhere at work, at school, or in the car. How will you find each other? Will you know if your children are safe? Disaster may force you to evacuate your neighborhood or confine you to your home. What would you do if basic services water, gas, electricity, or telephones were cut off? Follow these basic steps to develop a family disaster plan...
