One hundred national PLA winners will be chosen this spring to receive college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $12,000
“In the classroom, on the stage, in service – Cathryn Herlihey models student leadership,” said Gustafson. “She is a wonderful representative for Keith School.”
Principals and Heads of School from across the country were able to nominate one of their student leaders. Nominees were selected based on their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in arts and sciences, employment experience, and academic record. They were also required to write an essay.
“Every year, the nominees for the Principals Leadership Award are just phenomenal and Cathryn Herlihey is no different,” said Gerald N. Tirozzi, executive director of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). “She is an excellent example of what a true student leader embodies.”
By recognizing leadership in co-curricular activities as well as academic performance, the PLA scholarship recognizes the importance of a well-rounded education. Co-curricular activities are an essential part of the school curriculum.
A regular on the Head of School’s list that awards academic achievement and a talented violinist, Herlihey is very active with Habitat for Humanity, Glamour Gals, and the International and Environmental Clubs. She was a member of the math team that placed 10th in the state last year and is a multiple National Latin Award winner.
