Gov. Pat Quinn says he hopes the Illinois House will vote soon on whether to raise state income taxes.
But he was vague on whether he now supports making the increase temporary or dropping some of the tax-relief measures he wanted.
The Chicago Democrat said he's "willing to do whatever is necessary" to solve the state's budget crisis.
He called this "D-Day" and said he hopes the House votes Friday afternoon.
Quinn has proposed raising the tax rate from 3 percent to 4.5 percent. But lawmakers have shown little support for the idea and have suggested change, such as making the increase temporary.
