STATELINE (WIFR) – She’s already the best in the state, and now a local woman is going after a national title in grocery bagging. Carron Rodriguez never thought she’d be this good at this type of challenge. She even beat her son in a competition at the Sullivan’s store in Winnebago, the talent is one of the reason’s she’s our Stateline Spotlight.
“Every time I bag, I practice.”
With a state title already in the bag, competitors across the nation are now checking out Carron Rodriguez’s check-out skills.
“I feel bad for the other competitors because Carron is taking this very serious, I’d be scared if I were them.”
“They will get a run for their money.”
Rodriguez is now a superstar at the Sullivan’s Grocery Store in Winnebago. The three and a half year employee will represent the state of Illinois in a national bagging competition in Vegas on Tuesday and while she’s dreaming of a vacation, the local mom also has her mind set on victory.
“I tend to bag in my sleep.”
She also bags 30 minutes a day with her co-workers.
She practices all the time and she usually gets one of us to time her.
“I choose the items based on the weight of the bags so they are even.”
Rodriguez is up against baggers from 25 other states, all being judged on speed, attitude, and balance among other things.
She’s hoping to throw 36 items into three bags in under 50 seconds.
“It really has been a lot of fun.”
Fun, and a lot of work for this superstar cashier, who may soon cash in on a $10,000 prize.
Carron and her co-workers are headed to Vegas this weekend.
