MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State election officials say local clerks have issued at least 113,558 absentee ballots ahead of next month's recall contests.

Democrats upset with Republican Gov. Scott Walker's plan restricting public workers' union rights forced the governor and five other GOP officeholders into the recalls. Walker will face Democrat Tom Barrett in the June 5 elections.

Voters cast 230,744 absentee ballots in the November 2010 regular gubernatorial election. Walker defeated Barrett in that go-round to win the office.

People can request absentee ballots through May 31. In-person absentee voting in clerks' offices ends on June 1. City clerks' offices in Madison and Milwaukee will be open this Saturday, Sunday and Memorial Day to accommodate in-person absentee voters.
