WI Voter Registration Goes Electronic

WISCONSIN (WIFR) -- Voting is getting a lot easier in Wisconsin.

The government accountability board says electronic proof of residency can now be used when you are registering at the polls.

In the past, voters had to bring in a paper copy of a utility bill or mortgage agreement to prove residency.

La Crosse County Clerk Ginny Dankmeyer says now a person can show an electronic bill from their smartphone, tablet or laptop.
"As things change, more people are getting their bills through emails and they're not having the paper copies come in the mail anymore so its just, as technology evolves so do the processes that we have to do with the elections," Dankmeyer said.

Dankmeyer says there will be some additional training for poll workers about accepting the electronic devices... but she doesn't anticipate any problems.
