NORFOLK, VA (WIFR) – Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has picked Stateline congressman Paul Ryan of Janesville as his running mate.

Romney made the announcement Saturday morning in Norfolk, VA with the USS Wisconsin in the background.

For the last couple weeks there has been speculation Ryan was on a shortlist of potential VP candidates including Ohio Senator Rob Portman and former Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlently.

Ryan , 42, is a seven-term congressman and chairman of the House Budget Committee.
