ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- Term limits are not an issue yet for John Cabello, but Tuesday the 68th district representative announced that he's hoping a second term in Springfield is in the future.
After almost two decades chasing law-breakers the long time Rockford cop is hoping to continue to work with lawmakers in Springfield. Cabello tells 23 News his priority is to find solutions to the biggest problems. He says state wide that's pension reform, while in the Stateline property tax relief is his top concern. In fact Cabello has authored a property tax relief bill that he hopes gets introduced during the Fall veto session.
"Where we freeze property taxes for five years so that way it gives our residents. The people of Winnebago County and the rest of the state a little bit of time to recoup on the taxes that they have to pay," Cabello said.
The 68th district covers much of Northwest Winnebago County including Machesney Park, Loves Park and parts of Rockford. Cabello defeated Democrat Carl Wasco in 2012 to win the seat.
