ROSCOE (WIFR) – The Stateline’s Mass Transit District may be expanding its service. Voters in the Roscoe Township will say yes or no on a referendum next Tuesday.

They’ll decide whether or not a bus service would be useful. The SMTD operates under the Rockford Mass Transit District and already provides service in South Beloit, Roscoe, Rockton, and the Rockton Township by offering door to door service. A bus ride would cost $3.00 for adults, $1.50 for seniors and free for anyone 16 and under.

“We want to find out through this referendum whether the people want this service or not. The purpose of the referendum is to get feedback from the folks so we decide whether we pursue it or not pursue it,” said Jim Benkovich, Roscoe Township Supervisor.

Township officials believe it will cost about $3,000 a year to add the service.
