New Proof of Car Insurance Law

ILLINOIS (WIFR) -- Being in a car crash is never fun, but being in one with an uninsured driver can lead to months of legal paperwork. Fortunately, a new law aims to keep uninsured drivers off the road.

The new bill which was signed into law Tuesday will require licensed drivers in Illinois to provide proof of coverage before they receive their registration. The plan won't take effect until 2016, this will give the Secretary of State adequate tome to prepare for the changes. Those falsifying insurance under the new law will be guilty of a Class C Misdemeanor.
