Kinzinger Town Holds Hall Meeting in Belvidere

BELVIDERE (WIFR) -- It's one of the most unique congressional races in the country.. and it's happening right in our backyard.

Two incumbents square off in the Republican primary of the newly drawn 16th district. Dozens of people were on hand in Belvidere for the first of what Adam Kinzinger says will be many town hall meetings in Northern Illinois.

The current 11th District Freshman Congressman is now a candidate in the 11 county 16th district. Thursday night, on the one year anniversary of his Inauguration to the U.S.H House Kinzinger was answering questions from Stateliners on everything ranging from the deficit to alternative energy. Before the event Kinzinger says he understood the uniqueness of running in the Republican primary against 10 term Congressman Don Manzullo.

"This is a position that nobody ever wants to be in, but at the same time, look, I'm going for my third year in Congress and my opponents going for his 21st year. And so what we have is a difference of somebody who's going to be a fresh small government conservative voice for Washington DC and somebody who's not. Don and I are friends and we're going to continue to be friends, but we were put in this position so we're going to work hard," Kinzinger said.

The newly redrawn 16th district includes DeKalb, Boone, Lee, Ogle, and Winnebago Counties, including about a third of the City of Rockford.

What Kinzinger fails to understand is that we elected him to REPRESENT us in the 11th CD. his votin grecord doesn't reflect or values and principles. Yhat is why I will be voting for Manzullo as my next congressman. Don Manzullo may have been in Congress for sometime but that does not mean that we throw out the baby with the bath water. His conservative voting record is well documented. His is VERY accessible to his constituents and I look forward to have a congressman like that. kinzinger has failed to come to my area's TP since he was elected to speak. shaking hands in a hallway prior to a meeting is not what I want. Thank goodness that Schilling was willing to drive all the way over to speak to us. Good riddence to NEW conservative blood.
