Group Calls for Price Negotiations

ILLINOIS (WIFR) – The left-leaning organization “Citizen Action” stopped by the Stateline this morning to tout a new proposal they say would save us billions.

They say congress should allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices with the drug industry on behalf of its 50 million enrollees, something that Medicaid and the Veterans’ Administration already do.

The group estimates that could save Illinois taxpayers 2.9 billion dollars over the next 10 years and keep a growing number of seniors from having to choose between paying their utility bills or paying for costly medications.

“To throw people into poverty to keep the profits for Pfizer, is not an acceptable alternative,” said John Gaudette with Citizen Action.

Legislation along those lines will be introduced sometime in the next two weeks.
