FREEPORT (WIFR) -- A changing of the guard in Freeport. As the city swears in a new mayor for the first time in eight years.
Mayor Jim Gitz was sworn in at the beginning of Monday night's city council meeting. Before taking over outgoing Mayor George Gaulrapp said his goodbyes, reflecting on his eight years at the helm. He says he's proud of what he accomplished. Now, the title of mayor isn't new for Gitz, he ran the city for eight years before being beat by Gaulrapp in 2005.
Also at Monday night's meeting, aldermen passed a resolution for public transportation funding to expand bus service, but they're still waiting on funding from the state to move forward on the project.
