Comptroller Topinka Tours Lifescape to Highlight Not-For-Profit Funding Challenges

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The State of Illinois has a major stack of unpaid bills, coming in at nearly $6 billion and non-profits are suffering because of that.

Illinois Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka stopped by Rockford's Lifesacpe Center Tuesday. The not-for-profit says the state hasn't paid them in five months and owes them about a quarter of a million dollars, that's about 27 percent of its annual budget.

Lifescape serves about 5,000 seniors in Northern Illinois and delivers more than 1,000 meals everyday. Illinois lawmakers have until July to pass funding legislation.
