ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- The Rockford Chamber Political Action Committee (ROCPAC) has endorsed four candidates for the three vacant seats for the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees. ROCPAC has endorsed the following candidates.
• Ray Montelongo
• Frank Haney
• Patrick Murphy
• Richard Mowris
Each of these candidates received ROCPAC's endorsement after completing a candidate questionnaire that was reviewed by the ROCPAC Committee. Prospective candidates were asked to outline their priorities if they were to become a member of the Rock Valley College Board of Trustees. In addition they were asked to share their perspectives and/or positions on the following topics:
• Support for a downtown campus presence for Rock Valley College.
• The proposed Arts Instructional Center for Rock Valley College.
• Trustee role in working with the College President and senior RVC officials.
• Role of the College in workforce development.
• The facility planning process for the College in addressing community priorities.
ROCPAC was formed by the Rockford Chamber of Commerce in 2011 and has worked to identify races of importance to the business community. The Rockford Chamber has spent considerable time in advocating on issues tied to education performance and achievement, in particular increasing the degree attainment levels of the region and the development of programs to support the workforce needs of area industries.
ROCPAC is funded by contributions made my individuals and organizations and is registered with the State of Illinois Board of Elections. Rockford Chamber membership dues are not used to support ROCPAC. While the Rockford Chamber of Commerce regularly addresses issues of public policy to support a strong and vibrant business climate, ROCPAC serves to engage directly with elected officials and candidates running for office to support those that support a healthy business climate, including the addressing of education, crime, taxes, fiscal responsibility, and other areas vital to the business community.
Members of the business community are encouraged to consider ROCPAC's endorsements as they vote for Rock Valley College in the April 9 election.
