BGA Hosts Citizen Watchdog Training in Rockford

ROCKFORD (WIFR) -- A local watchdog group wants to make sure we know how to keep an eye on the government.

The Better Government Association held a training session Wednesday night to tell us about tools we can use to investigate what lawmakers are up to.

The meeting allowed us to learn how to file a Freedom Of Information Act. Better Government Association Investigator Patrick McCraney says this allows us to find out what happens behind closed doors.

"A government official can say one thing but when you see it on paper and get the document you really know what's going on. We've got five or six full time investigators at the BGA, we can't cover everything but if we train a bunch of people we can get this state covered and root out the corruption," McCraney said.
